For the understorey biomass sampling required by ICOS, Iris Feigenwinter (ETH Zurich, ICOS Davos Station PI) joined Käthi Liechti (WSL, ICOS scientist) at the ICOS Class 1 Ecosystem station Davos on 14 July 2023. The biomass was sampled in a 1x1m plot from a harvest frame with 25x25cm dimensions. The location of the harvest frame within the plot changes from one year to another. In total, they sampled at 20 locations and separated the biomass into shrubs (mostly blueberries), herbs and mosses for the later quantification of their fresh and dry weight. So nice to do fieldwork for a change and wander among trees!
