ICOS-CH convened sessions at this years' EGU

The EGU General Assembly 2021, usually hosted in Vienna, took place virtually for the second time (19-30 April 2021). We are happy that two sessions at this year's EGU were covened by ICOS-CH members.

Mana Gharun (ICOS-CH Postdoctoral researcher at ETH Zurich) convened the session "Bridging understanding of carbon and water fluxes from leaf to continent with observations and simulations" (BG3.18). The session was a great success – more than 100 people joined to see the presentations and participate in the very nice discussions. How good to see that despite all physical limitations, participants still managed to hear about the latest research, interact and even extend their scientific network.

Simone Pieber (ICOS-CH Postdoctoral researcher at Empa) convened the EGU early career scientist round table "Great Debate 5" discussion on "Bullying in Academia – towards creating healthy and safe working environments" (GDB5) which turned into a successful event, and counted around 80 attendees. Conveners, moderators, and participants across different career stages exchanged and brainstormed in 7 confidential break out rooms and 1 open discussion. In preparation for the event, the conveners prepared an informative blog post (Pieber SM, Van Rijsingen E, Gürer D, Beniest A, 2021: "Mind your Head - An introduction to workplace bullying in academia"), which lists valuable resources for everyone and served as stimulus for the discussion. During GDB5, a list of ideas for bottom up actions to foster inclusive work environments within the Geosciences was created, which serves as a basis for future work by the EGU ECS to tackle this matter.

Well done, Simone and Mana!
