As part of the Long Night of Museums in Zurich, members of the Grassland Sciences Group (ETH Zurich) presented research from the ICOS station Davos to a broader audience.
The CO2 flux measurements from the ICOS Class 1 Station Davos were presented to public at the Long night of museums in Zurich. An expert booth was set up within the current exhibition KEEP IT CO2OL at the focusTerra Museum.
The centerpiece of the exhibition booth was a specially developed mobile tower equipped with an eddy covariance measurement system similar to the one installed in Davos. Visitors could experiment with the instruments with their own breath under the expert guidance of the two technicians Philip Meier and Thomas Baur who work at the Davos station on a regular basis. The large number of visitors throughout the evening led to a CO2 concentration of more than 1,000 ppm in the museum!
Moreover, the “Climate Change in a Bottle” experiment illustrating the greenhouse gas effect in a simple way could be discovered. Nina Buchmann (ICOS-CH Focal Point) and Susanne Burri (ICOS-CH coordinator) explained research performed in Davos to the very interested audience.
Sabina Keller (outreach expert of the Grassland Sciences Group) organized the booth and was responsible for its presentation and exhibition design.
