Stavros Stagakis (Uni Basel, ICOS-CH Station PI of Basel Station) was invited by Dr. Fred Maier and Prof. Dr. Daniel Fenner, to visit the urban ICOS station Berlin-Rothenburgstrasse (DE-BeR) and give a talk at the Ecological Seminar Series, organized by the Institute of Ecology (Technical University Berlin).
During his 2-day visit end of April 2026, Stavros had the chance to meet with the Chair of the Climatology group who runs the Urban Climate Observatory (UCO) Berlin and the DE-BeR station. They discussed greenhouse gas and heat flux observations in cities and exchanged knowledge and experience from research at urban ICOS stations. Furthermore, Stavros received a guided tour at the DE-BeR station and the UCO facilities and learned about ongoing research and technical developments of the UCO group. His talk focused on recent research findings from the urban Basel station (CH-BaK), as well as from the ICOS-Cities project. During the discussion following the talk, it was clear that the two groups share similar research gaps and objectives and that a stronger collaboration between the ICOS urban flux community is needed.
