The urban station Basel Klingelbergstrasse (CH-BaK) was labelled as ICOS Associated Ecosystem Station on 6 November 2024. Following the tradition of ICOS-CH, this milestone was celebrated at the Atmospheric Sciences of the University of Basel at Klingelbergstrasse 27 on 4 April 2025 in the late afternoon.
Markus Kalberer (ICOS-CH PI at University of Basel) welcomed the attendees and Roland Vogt spoke about the history of the tower, including its spectacular relocation from Spalenring to Klingelbergstrasse in 2004. Roland also highlighted significant milestones in urban CO2 monitoring, such as the Basel Urban Boundary Layer Experiment BUBBLE in 2002. He acknowledged the research conducted at Klingelbergstrasse which was co-initiated by the former head of the Institute, Eberhard Parlow, and documented in several papers. Christian Feigenwinter (ICOS Station PI for CH-BaK) reflected on the research projects conducted at CH-BaK since 2018 and recognized the important contribution of Markus Kalberer and Stavros Stagakis in maintaining the operation of the tower until joining ICOS-CH Phase 3 in 2021 and beyond. A special thank you was extended to the many “HiWis” who were in attendance and had contributed to the tower’s operations over the past 20 years.

The audience then moved to the roof for the group picture and were enthusiastic about the beautifully decorated tower! The event ended cheerfully with drinks, snacks and many old stories revolving around the tower.
