ICOS ERIC celebrated the 10 year anniversary in Helsinki, Finland, on 25–27 November 2025.
ICOS ERIC marked its 10th anniversary with a three-day event in Helsinki. The gathering brought together stakeholders, scientists, and technicians for ICOS-wide meetings and featured the first-ever cross-domain Monitoring Station Assembly (MSA), spanning atmosphere, ecosystem, and ocean domains. Also, the ICOS General Assembly took place during the anniversary. The celebration concluded with an anniversary seminar, including keynote presentations, a farewell address by outgoing Director General Werner Kutsch, and an inspiring talk by Director General-elect Hannele Laine. The seminar was complemented by musical performances, adding a festive note to the occasion.
For ICOS Switzerland, Stavros Stagakis (ICOS Station PI of Basel station, University of Basel), Martin Steinbacher (ICOS Station PI of Jungfraujoch station, Empa) and Maarten Lupker (ICOS-CH delegate in the ICOS General Assembly, State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation) joined the anniversary. "It was nice for me to meet the community and hear about all the different perspectives related to ICOS. From the overall goals, the history and the future of the infrastructure, to specific insights from the stations of the different thematic centers. The talks by the policy makers helped me to understand the role of ICOS on the national and EU scale and what is expected from ICOS community in the future" says Stavros Stagakis. Stavros Stagakis has become ICOS Station PI only this year and joined an MSA meeting for the first time.
We especially would like to congratulate Maarten Lupker, our delegate in the ICOS General Assembly, for being selected as the new GA chair for a two-year term.
